How long does it take to build a web app in Australia?

Question

Accepted Answer

Web application development timelines in Australia depend on the complexity of the application, the quality of the brief, the number of integrations required, and the development team's capacity. Understanding typical timelines helps businesses plan their digital investment and set realistic expectations.

**Standard Business Web App (6–16 Weeks)**

A standard business web application — booking system, customer portal, internal dashboard, or simple e-commerce platform — typically takes 6–16 weeks from brief to launch. The phases are: discovery and scoping (weeks 1–2), UX design and prototype (weeks 3–4), development (weeks 5–12), testing and refinement (weeks 13–14), and launch and handover (weeks 15–16). A well-scoped project with a clear brief and responsive client feedback can be delivered at the lower end of this range.

**Complex AI-Integrated Platform (16–40 Weeks)**

Complex platforms with AI integration, multiple user roles, custom data models, and multiple third-party integrations take 16–40 weeks. PresciaIQ's BuildHire platform — an AI-powered equipment hire marketplace with 84,000+ programmatic SEO pages — was delivered in this timeframe.

**Factors That Affect Timeline**

The most common causes of timeline extension are: scope changes after development begins (adding features mid-project is expensive and time-consuming), slow client feedback (waiting for content, approvals, or decisions adds weeks to timelines), integration complexity with legacy systems (connecting to old systems often takes longer than expected), and data migration (moving data from existing systems to the new platform requires careful planning and testing).

**PresciaIQ's Delivery Approach**

PresciaIQ's agile delivery approach delivers working software at the end of every 2-week sprint, enabling clients to see and test the application as it develops. The first working prototype is typically delivered within 4 weeks of project start — a significant differentiator from traditional waterfall development that delivers nothing tangible for months. Fixed-price proposals are delivered within 5 business days of receiving a project brief. Contact PresciaIQ at sales@presciaiq.com.au.
